The aesthetic aspects of the face are a primary area of focus in our society. The face, precisely the mouth and teeth as the most visible face structures, are vital in facial aesthetics and the most critical individual components determining one’s physical look. The reasons for requesting orthodontic treatments are not necessarily related to functional need, instead, people usually seek this treatment to improve their aesthetic appearance. Orthodontics includes all preventive therapeutic procedures for all types of dental deviations and irregularities which require the repositioning of teeth by mechanical and functional means with the aim of establishing normal occlusion and a harmonious facial appearance. Various correlations between facial morphology and anatomy features have been investigated, however, since the early 20th century the relationship between malocclusions, facial morphology and facial aesthetics has been extensively studied. The aim of this article was to summarize the available information regarding the impact of fixed orthodontic appliances on the facial aesthetics having in mind that orthodontic therapy is very popular service of health centres within the framework of health tourism.
