Abstract:
Effective communication in English for specific purposes is essential for professionals infields such as tourism, hospitality and gastronomy, where clear and precise language plays a crucial role in international interactions. However, non-native speakers, particularly those whose native language is Serbian, often encounter challenges that result in various linguistic errors. This paper examines communication mistakes in English within the context of contemporary language trends intourism, hospitality and gastronomy, categorizing errors into spelling, grammatical, lexical, semantic, stylistic, translation and phonetic mistakes. Additionally, it explores the interactions between these errors, such as the impact of spelling mistakes on language style and how translation issues affect overall communication clarity. The study investigates the underlying causes of these errors, emphasizing the influence of Serbian linguistic structures, word order, phonetic patterns and translation tendencies on professional English proficiency. By identifying patterns of interference, the research aims to provide insights into the most frequent sources of mistakes. Furthermore, the paper offers practical strategies for avoiding such errors, focusing on targeted English for specific purposes (ESP) training, professional language awareness and the implementation of corrective techniques in both spoken and written communication. Through a combination of linguistic analysis and applied recommendations, this study contributes to improving the accuracy and effectiveness of English communication in professional settings, particularly in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy, where professionalism and linguistic precision are key to success.
