Abstract:
The subject of this paper is the analysis of the design of the tourist attraction “Piazza d’Italia” by architect Charles Moore in New Orleans, USA. The aim of the paper is to determine how the design of public spaces influences the development of tourism at the location, identify the characteristics of the postmodern era, analyze them, and explore the extent to which they have been applied in the design of Charles Moore’s “Piazza d’Italia,” as well as how this type of design has contributed to the creation of a tourist attraction promoted by local and international tourist agencies and websites, and also available for event rentals by a local hotel. The paper will consider the impact of design on the creation of public spaces and the increase in tourist visits, briefly presenting the historical context of the postmodern era and its characteristics in the context of the design of “Piazza d’Italia,” and will conclude whether this approach to designing public spaces has had a significant impact on the development of tourism in New Orleans and contributed to the increase of tourist interest in this location. The paper utilizes basic methods such as structural-functional analysis, deduction, and the comparative method.
