THE BENEFITS FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY FROM CREATING POP CULTURAL TOURISM DESTINATION BRANDS

Abstract:
This paper discusses the importance of the mass media and contemporary art, as well as new motifs, for the development of tourist travels. Mass media, blockbusters, worldwide literature and fiction, as well as popular music which have a large number of fans, have a strong impact on people and their understanding of other nations. Today most information is received from the mass media. Often a film can do much more for tourism, than the efforts of tourism workers in order to promote a country. This paper explores movies, music and literature that have changed little towns around the world and their impact on local development and tourism boom. Nowdays, the impact of the seventh art and literature does not subside,on the contrary, they are now the basis for pop cultural travel, where tourists seek to be in an interactive relationship with experiences that are firstly perceived through literature or film. Movies, music and literature give the impression of lived experience and make certain destination close to the average foreign tourists. Famous pop cultural destinations are Atlanta in the U.S., based on the famous film „Gone with the Wind”, or for example, a small town of Corleone in Sicily. Movies boost flourishing of small towns in the economic and tourism terms, and accordingly this paper suggests the importance of developing of culture in local areas. Also, the development of pop cultural tourism in large cities is desirable as an additional tourist content.
